Orbera Balloon
The ORBERA balloon is a device that helps patients lose weight and maintain weight loss. The procedure involves placement of a soft, silicone rubber balloon into the stomach. This balloon takes up about one third of the space in the stomach, and can create a feeling of fullness so the patient consumes a smaller quantity of food, leading to weight loss. The balloon remains in the stomach for six months, and then is removed.
The ORBERA balloon is a good option for patients age 22 and over, with a BMI of 30-40, who have been unable to lose weight with diet and exercise. Using the ORBERA balloon, the average person loses three times more weight than with diet and exercise alone. The average weight loss is about 22 pounds, but following the diet and exercise plan closely can result in significantly greater weight loss. The key to long term success will be the changes in lifestyle that the patient can learn with the help of the balloon.
Orbera Balloon
The ORBERA balloon is placed at an ambulatory surgery center on an outpatient basis. The procedure is performed under intravenous anesthesia for maximum comfort and safety and takes about 30 minutes. Using a lighted instrument, the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum are inspected. The deflated balloon is placed through the mouth into the stomach and the balloon is filled with saline (salt water) solution until it is the size of a grapefruit. The balloon is removed in six months in the same way.
After the ORBERA balloon is removed, you will continue to see the dietician for a total of 12 months, and will continue your exercise program and behavioral therapy techniques to maintain and further your weight loss.

The procedure is not covered by insurance. We participate with CareCredit, a company that finances medical procedures. The costs are as follows:
Initial consultation (In person or by Telehealth): $150.00
Procedure: $7300.00 (This includes a monthly visit with a dietician for a year, and follow-up with us for a year.)
Blood tests and medications: May be covered by insurance
