Tampa Bay features excellent museums including the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, the Florida International Museum at St. Petersburg College, the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg, the Tampa Museum of Art, the USF Contemporary Art Museum on USF’s main Tampa Campus, the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts in Tampa, the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum in Pinellas Park, the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art on the Tarpon Springs Campus of St Petersburg College, the Royal Theater and Manhattan Casino Historic Landmarks in St. Petersburg, the Carter J. Woodson African-American Museum in St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay History Center.
Live performances are given frequently at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa, Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, and the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center.
Special events include the Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa, the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City, Clearwater Jazz Holiday in Clearwater, Guavaween in Tampa, and Festa Italiana in Ybor City.
The beaches in our area are world class. Water activities including, boating, kayaking, fishing, scalloping. Other activities like tennis, golf, and horseback riding can enjoyed year-round.
Nearby theme parks include Adventure Island In Tampa, Busch Gardens in Tampa, Dinosaur World in Plant City, Weeki Wachee Springs in Hernando County, and Legoland Florida in Winter Haven.
For those who love animal life there is Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, the Florida Aquarium in Tampa, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater, and the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary in Indian Shores.
Beautiful parks include the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo, Sunken Gardens in St. Petersburg, and the USF Botanical Gardens in Tampa. We also have Hillsborough River State Park in Thonotosassa, and Honeymoon Island State Park near Dunedin. In Pinellas County we have the Pinellas Trail, a 37-mile running and cycling trail connecting Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg. Skyway Fishing Pier State Park forms the words largest fishing pier, in Pinellas and Manatee counties.
Sports fans find much to enjoy in Tampa bay. The Buccaneers, the Rays, and the Lightning call Tampa Bay home. We also have the Tampa Bay Vipers (XFL-football), the Tampa Bay Rowdies (soccer), and the USF Bulls (football and basketball). Major League Baseball has several teams that come to our area for spring training: The New York Yankees in Tampa, the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater, the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin, the Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton, and the Detroit Tigers in Lakeland. The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is a yearly race that features Indy type racing cars.
